The SR 79 Realignment Project involves a variety of studies, technical and public review, and ultimately construction. The chart above shows the approximate timing of milestones in the SR 79 Realignment process. Many activities have already been completed and are listed below.

Completed Milestones
  • Realignment Study Report (1998)
  • Project Study Report (2000)
  • Purpose and Need (2003)
  • Scoping/Public Involvement (2004/2005)
  • Updated Preliminary Agreement and Criteria and Alternatives Selection (2005)

The Project is currently completing tasks scheduled for 2008. This includes the completion of the Draft Technical Reports. Draft reports have been submitted for agency review. When the Final Technical Reports are completed, the Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environment Impact Statement(EIR/EIS) will be prepared. It is during the preparation of the Draft EIR/EIS that the evaluation of a preferred alternative for the Project will be considered. Then, the Draft EIR/EIS will be released for public review. Our next public meeting will occur when the Draft EIR/EIS has been submitted for public review (anticipated Summer 2009). RCTC will be accepting comments on the Draft EIR/EIS during this period. Then, the Final EIR/EIS will be prepared to respond to public comments and to document the Project alternative that has been selected.
